RAZE - the mission
An international not-for-profit theatre project based in Los Angeles dedicated to producing cutting-edge contemporary and classical theatre with a global focus and community impact. RAZE THE SPACE is committed to reshaping the theatrical landscape with daring work that excites and challenges audiences, redefining expectations of what theatre is and can be at the intersection of theatre, poetry, and spoken word while providing free performances for its audiences.
Committed to a story-telling process that is bold, inventive, and inherently theatrical, the ensemble aims to provide world-class theatre for global audiences; an agenda reflected in the diversity of international theatre artists and collaborators who work with us.
RAZE - the background
The collective was founded in 2014 by British-American stage director, poet, and author Martin Jago with the purpose of creating unique theatrical experiences for audiences and providing key training and educational development for theatre professionals and audiences alike.
RAZE THE SPACE began as a direct and practical response to the Directors Lab West 2014 annual theme The Global Effect: Worldwide Influences from Global to Local.
In its inaugural year RAZE THE SPACE collaborated with over 90 artists, staged around 12 plays, and a series of workshops for actors and writers - all before reaching its first birthday!
